Plan the Electrical Before the Drywall Goes Up

Renovation wiring

The cheapest electrical work happens while the framing is exposed. We walk the project with you or your contractor before drywall, complete rough-in ahead of insulation and vapour barrier, and return for devices, fixtures and finals once the walls are closed.

What we plan before rough-in:

  • Circuit mapping, lighting layout, switching and outlet locations

  • A load calculation, so the panel can handle everything the new space will draw

  • Panel or service upgrades scoped while the walls are open, not after

  • Kitchens, bathrooms and basements wired to their specific code rules: dedicated appliance circuits, GFCI protection, interconnected smoke and carbon monoxide alarms

Finished basements, kitchen upgrades and additions add circuits fast: induction ranges, heat pumps, hot tubs, EV chargers. Planned this way, nothing gets cut open a second time.

A technician wearing a blue jacket and a black cap stands next to an electrical meter, working on a circuit box mounted on a wall, with various warning labels visible.

Wired Right While the Walls Are Open

A renovation is the cheapest moment you'll ever have to fix old wiring, add capacity and plan for what's next. Charged Electric works alongside your contractor or directly with you, from first layout to final ESA inspection.

Renovation Electricians

Plan Before Rough-In
We map circuits, lighting and panel capacity before drywall, so nothing gets opened twice.
Code-Compliant, ESA Inspected
ECRA/ESA licensed 7011473 and fully insured. Every renovation gets its ESA notification and inspection, protecting your insurance and resale value.
Old Homes, Handled
Aluminum wiring, undersized panels and ungrounded circuits are routine finds in Waterloo Region homes. We correct them as part of the job.
Upfront Pricing
A firm quote before work starts, coordinated with your renovation timeline. No surprises mid-project.

Old Wiring Corrected, ESA Inspection Passed

To code, documented

Many homes in New Hamburg, Baden and the older neighbourhoods of Kitchener-Waterloo still carry wiring from a different era: aluminum branch circuits, ungrounded outlets, and panels crowded with tandem breakers. New work in a renovation must meet the current Ontario Electrical Safety Code, and a renovation is the practical moment to correct what's behind walls you already have open.

Every renovation we wire includes:

  • The ESA notification filed for you, with inspections at rough-in and completion

  • Correction of code defects found along the way, quoted before we touch them

  • Documentation your home insurance and a future buyer's home inspector will ask for

We identify what has to change, what should change, and what can safely stay. Request a quote and we'll get back to you within one business day.

They installed a whole home generator for us. Top notch job! Everything went tickity boo. A lot of work involved but the trades were all very professional and explained the job to us as we went along. Other contractors wouldn’t even return our calls. Highly recommend! Local too!

I had them come help me with issues when I had my Lyric Thermostat. On time (early), pet friendly (did not mind my hyper chocolate lab) and price range very reasonable. I would highly recommend Charged Electric in the future.

Home Renovation Electrical Questions

Yes. Electrical work in an Ontario renovation requires a notification filed with the Electrical Safety Authority, with inspections at rough-in and completion. We file it and book the inspections on every project, and you get the passed-inspection record for your insurance and future resale.

Yes, most of our renovation work is coordinated with a general contractor or builder. We arrive when framing is ready, complete rough-in before insulation and drywall, and return for devices, fixtures and the final inspection so the project keeps moving.

If the renovation adds circuits, a load calculation will tell you. Finished basements, kitchen upgrades, EV chargers and heat pumps often push older 100 amp services to their limit. Upgrading while the walls are already open is far simpler than opening finished walls later, and we quote it upfront as part of the job.

Yes. Basement finishing is one of our most common renovation jobs: outlets to code spacing, pot lights, subpanels where needed, and interconnected smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. We handle the ESA notification and inspection like any other renovation.

We see both regularly in Waterloo Region homes. We'll tell you what current code requires you to change, what we recommend changing while the walls are open, and what can safely stay. ESA defect corrections are routine work for our crew.
