What a Commercial Generator Install Involves

Emergency power

A standby generator is only as reliable as the electrical work behind it. We handle the full installation: the load calculation and sizing, the automatic transfer switch, and the wiring that ties it into your service, all to code.

What we install:

  • Natural gas and propane standby generators, sized to your actual loads

  • Automatic transfer switches, so power cuts over in seconds with nobody on site

  • Essential-loads panels for businesses that only need critical circuits covered

  • Testing, service and repairs to keep an existing generator start-ready

We work with all major generator brands, coordinate with your gas fitter, and handle the ESA notification and inspection, so the installation is documented from day one.

When the Power Fails, Your Business Doesn't

Charged Electric installs and services standby generators for retail stores, restaurants, offices and facilities across Waterloo Region. One crew handles sizing, wiring, the transfer switch and the ESA paperwork.

Emergency Power

Automatic Cutover
With an automatic transfer switch, the generator starts and takes the load in seconds, whether anyone is on site or not.
Sized to Your Real Loads
We run a load calculation first, so you're not paying for capacity you'll never use or browning out on the day you need it.
Licensed, Insured, ESA Inspected
ECRA/ESA licensed 7011473 and fully insured. Generator wiring and transfer switches are inspected and documented, which your insurer will ask about.
24/7 Service After the Install
If a generator won't start or won't transfer, we answer around the clock, including standby systems we didn't install.

Outages Cost More Than Generators

Worth planning

A power outage closes your doors, spoils refrigerated stock, drops your POS and security systems, and sends staff home. For many businesses, one long outage costs more than the standby system that would have carried them through it.

How we scope an emergency power project:

  • Walk the site and list the loads that actually matter: refrigeration, POS, security, heat, sump

  • Size the generator and transfer switch to those loads, with room to grow

  • Quote the full job upfront: generator, wiring, transfer switch and ESA notification

Already have a generator that hasn't been exercised in years? We test, service and repair standby systems too. Request a quote and we'll get back to you within one business day.

They installed a whole home generator for us. Top notch job! Everything went tickity boo. A lot of work involved but the trades were all very professional and explained the job to us as we went along. Other contractors wouldn’t even return our calls. Highly recommend! Local too!

I had them come help me with issues when I had my Lyric Thermostat. On time (early), pet friendly (did not mind my hyper chocolate lab) and price range very reasonable. I would highly recommend Charged Electric in the future.

Commercial Generator Questions

That's a load calculation, not a guess. We walk your site, list the loads that matter during an outage, and size the generator and transfer switch to carry them, with room to grow. Oversizing wastes money and undersizing fails you during the outage you bought it for.

It depends on the generator size, the transfer switch, the gas supply and where the unit sits. We scope the whole project upfront, generator through ESA notification, and you approve one firm number before work starts.

The electrical side requires a notification filed with the Electrical Safety Authority, which we handle along with the inspection. The gas connection is done by a licensed gas fitter, and we coordinate that as part of the project.

A standby generator is permanently installed, connects through an automatic transfer switch, and starts itself when the power drops, staffed or not. A portable needs someone on site with cords and fuel. For business continuity, standby is the one that actually protects you.

Yes. We test, service and repair standby generators and transfer switches regardless of who installed them. A generator that hasn't been exercised in years is a coin flip; scheduled testing makes it a certainty.

We install and service emergency power for businesses across Waterloo Region and Southwestern Ontario, including Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph, Stratford and London, from our shop in New Hamburg. Call +1 (519) 469-9797 or request a quote and we'll respond within one business day.
