When a Panel Change or Service Upgrade Makes Sense

Capacity

Panels age, businesses grow, and equipment gets hungrier. If you're out of breaker spaces, running subpanels off subpanels, or planning equipment your service can't feed, it's time to look at the supply side.

Common triggers we see:

  • New equipment: HVAC, kitchen lines, EV chargers or machinery that needs more amperage or three-phase power

  • Aging or obsolete panels with breakers you can't source anymore

  • Insurance or ESA flags on the existing service or grounding

  • Tenant fit-outs where the existing distribution doesn't match the new layout

We start with a load calculation, tell you straight whether you need a panel change, a service upgrade or just better distribution, and quote it upfront.

Capacity for What Your Business Runs Next

Charged Electric upgrades panels, services and distribution for retail, restaurant, office and industrial buildings across Waterloo Region. One crew handles the load calculation, the utility coordination and the ESA paperwork.

Service Upgrades

Load Calculation First
We measure what your building actually draws before recommending a panel or service size. No guesswork, no overselling.
Cutover Planned, Not Improvised
Shutdowns are coordinated with your utility and scheduled off-hours where possible, so the lights-out window stays as short as the job allows.
Licensed, Insured, ESA Inspected
ECRA/ESA licensed 7011473 and fully insured. Service work is inspected and documented, including the grounding and bonding most people forget.
Upfront Pricing
One firm quote covering the panel, the service work and the ESA notification. You approve the number before anything is disconnected.

What the Job Actually Involves

Done right

A service upgrade touches everything from the utility connection to the breakers: the mast or lateral, the metering, the main disconnect, the panel, and the grounding and bonding that make it all safe.

Our crews handle:

  • Panel changes and replacements, including obsolete panel types with unobtainable breakers

  • Service upgrades for higher amperage or three-phase power, coordinated with your utility

  • Grounding and bonding brought up to current code as part of the work

  • Distribution and subpanels laid out for how your space actually operates

The ESA notification and inspection are part of the job, and you get a labelled, documented panel when we leave. Request a quote and we'll get back to you within one business day.

They installed a whole home generator for us. Top notch job! Everything went tickity boo. A lot of work involved but the trades were all very professional and explained the job to us as we went along. Other contractors wouldn’t even return our calls. Highly recommend! Local too!

I had them come help me with issues when I had my Lyric Thermostat. On time (early), pet friendly (did not mind my hyper chocolate lab) and price range very reasonable. I would highly recommend Charged Electric in the future.

Panel & Service Upgrade Questions

The common signs: breakers that trip under normal load, no spare breaker spaces, equipment you can't add without splitters, or an insurer flagging the panel. A load calculation settles it. We measure what the building draws and tell you whether the panel, the service or just the distribution needs to change.

It depends on the panel size, the service amperage, the condition of the existing wiring, and whether the utility needs to be involved. We walk the site, run the load calculation, and quote one firm number upfront before anything is disconnected.

There is a planned shutdown during the cutover, but it's coordinated with your utility and scheduled off-hours where possible. You'll know the shutdown window before work starts, and we keep it as short as the job allows.

Often, yes. It depends on what the utility can supply at your location. We assess your equipment's requirements, confirm what's available with the utility, and scope the conversion as part of the quote.

Yes. Grounding and bonding are brought up to current code as part of any panel change or service upgrade we do, and they're covered by the ESA inspection like the rest of the work.

We upgrade panels and services for businesses across Waterloo Region and Southwestern Ontario, including Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph, Stratford and London, from our shop in New Hamburg. Call +1 (519) 469-9797 or request a quote and we'll respond within one business day.
