What Good Pot Light Installation Looks Like

Recessed lighting

Anyone can cut holes in a ceiling. A good pot light job starts with layout: spacing that lights the room evenly, beam angles that suit the ceiling height, and colour temperature that matches how the room is used.

Every install includes:

  • A layout plan before any holes are cut, walked through with you

  • IC-rated fixtures where insulation is present, as code requires

  • Slim LED fixtures for tight ceilings and vapour-sealed options where needed

  • Compatible dimmers, so the lights dim smoothly instead of flickering

  • Openings cut clean to fixture size and a tidy site when we leave

Kitchens, basements, living rooms and exteriors each light differently. We'll tell you how many you actually need, which is often fewer than you think.

Modern kitchen featuring stainless steel appliances, white cabinetry, granite countertops, and a pendant light fixture above the island. A pizza box is placed on the countertop, with various kitchen utensils visible. The decor combines functionality with a cozy, contemporary design with pot lights..

Even Light, Not a Ceiling Full of Holes

Charged Electric installs pot lights across New Hamburg, Wilmot Township and Kitchener-Waterloo, from four lights over a kitchen island to a whole-basement layout.

Pot Lights

Layout First
Spacing and beam angles planned on paper before the first hole, so the room lights evenly without a grid of glare.
IC-Rated and Sealed
Fixtures rated for insulation contact, vapour-sealed where the ceiling needs it. That's code, and it prevents heat and moisture problems above.
Licensed, Insured, ESA Inspected
ECRA/ESA licensed 7011473 and fully insured. Circuits, switching and fixtures wired to code and inspected.
Upfront Pricing
You approve one number for the layout, fixtures, switching and dimmers before we start.

Kitchens, Basements and Everywhere Else

Room by room

Each room asks for something different. Kitchens want bright task lighting over counters; basements want even coverage from low ceilings; living rooms want warmth on dimmers; exteriors want soffit lights that survive the weather.

Popular projects:

  • Kitchen pot lights with under-cabinet task lighting to match

  • Basement layouts using slim LEDs that clear low joists

  • Living and dining rooms on dimmers with warm colour temperatures

  • Exterior soffit pot lights for curb appeal and security

Swapping old halogen pots for sealed LEDs counts too: less heat, less energy, no more bulb changes. Request a quote and we'll get back to you within one business day.

They installed a whole home generator for us. Top notch job! Everything went tickity boo. A lot of work involved but the trades were all very professional and explained the job to us as we went along. Other contractors wouldn’t even return our calls. Highly recommend! Local too!

I had them come help me with issues when I had my Lyric Thermostat. On time (early), pet friendly (did not mind my hyper chocolate lab) and price range very reasonable. I would highly recommend Charged Electric in the future.

Pot Light Questions

It depends on the number of lights, ceiling access, whether insulation is involved, and the switching and dimmers you want. We plan the layout, count the fixtures, and quote the whole project as one upfront number.

A working rule of thumb is spacing lights at roughly half the ceiling height apart, but the real answer depends on beam angle, room use and furniture layout. We plan it on paper first, and homeowners are often surprised how few they actually need.

Yes, with IC-rated fixtures, which are designed for direct insulation contact. Where a vapour barrier is involved, sealed fixtures keep the ceiling airtight. Both are code requirements, and both are standard on our installs.

Yes, when the dimmer matches the fixtures. LED pot lights on the wrong dimmer flicker, buzz or won't dim low. We pair compatible dimmers with the lights so they dim smoothly to the bottom of the range.

Openings are cut clean to fixture size and wires are fished through the joists, so in most rooms there's no drywall repair at all. Where attic access or blocking limits fishing, we'll tell you exactly what to expect before we cut anything.

We install pot lights across New Hamburg, Baden, New Dundee, Wilmot Township, Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Stratford, Tavistock and Wellesley. Call +1 (519) 469-9797 or request a quote and we'll respond within one business day.
