Capacity Planning Before Copper

Industrial service upgrades

Every new line, compressor and charger draws from the same service. When capacity runs out, so do your options. We start with a load study, so the upgrade you buy matches the plant you're planning, not just the one you have.

What the work covers:

  • Load studies and capacity reviews before any equipment is ordered

  • 600V service and distribution upgrades: switchgear, splitters, feeders and panels

  • Dry-type transformer supply, installation and replacement

  • Unit substation and switchgear work, inspected and documented

  • Utility coordination handled end to end, from application to reconnection

Long-lead equipment is the schedule risk on these projects. We scope early, order early and plan the outage last.

Load Studies First
Measured demand, not guesswork, decides the service size. You buy the capacity the plan actually needs.
600V Distribution Experience
Switchgear, transformers, splitters and feeders at industrial scale, installed, inspected and documented.
Outages Measured in Hours
Cutovers planned into weekends and shutdowns, with every step sequenced before the power goes off.

ECRA/ESA licensed 7011473 and fully insured. ESA notifications, inspections and utility paperwork handled for you.

Signs the Service Is Running Out

When to upgrade

Plants rarely outgrow their electrical service overnight. The signs stack up first.

What to watch for:

  • Nuisance trips on main breakers when large equipment starts

  • Transformers running hot or humming louder than they used to

  • Distribution panels full, with no spare capacity for the next machine

  • Lights and drives sagging when compressors or welders kick in

  • Expansion on the horizon: new lines, electric process heat or fleet charging

A load study turns those symptoms into a number and a plan. Request a quote and we'll respond within one business day.

They installed a whole home generator for us. Top notch job! Everything went tickity boo. A lot of work involved but the trades were all very professional and explained the job to us as we went along. Other contractors wouldn’t even return our calls. Highly recommend! Local too!

I had them come help me with issues when I had my Lyric Thermostat. On time (early), pet friendly (did not mind my hyper chocolate lab) and price range very reasonable. I would highly recommend Charged Electric in the future.

Service Upgrade Questions

The symptoms are nuisance trips, hot transformers, full panels and voltage sag when big loads start. The proof is a load study: we record actual demand over time and compare it against the service rating, which tells you exactly how much headroom is left and what the next machine will do to it.

A load study first, then design, the utility application, equipment procurement and the cutover itself, finished with ESA inspection. Switchgear and transformers carry long lead times, so the sequence is built around ordering equipment early and taking the outage last.

Once the new unit is on site, the changeover itself is typically planned to fit a weekend or scheduled shutdown window. The long pole is the transformer's lead time, not the outage, which is why we order early and stage everything before the power goes off.

We do, end to end: the application, the technical back-and-forth, metering changes and the reconnection booking. You get one contractor responsible for the whole path instead of refereeing between an electrician and the utility.

Most of it, yes. New gear is staged, mounted and wired while the plant runs; only the final cutover needs an outage, and that gets planned into a window you choose. We sequence every step in advance so the outage is measured in hours.

We handle industrial service upgrades, transformers and substation work across Southwestern Ontario, including Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Stratford, New Hamburg and Wilmot Township. Call +1 (519) 469-9797 or request a quote and we'll respond within one business day.
